Prayer Alert: Inside Perspective from Christians in Cairo

In light of Israel's geographical proximity to disturbing events in the Middle East and North Africa, Your People My People felt it pertinent to share some eyewitness accounts from Egyptian Christians on the streets of Cairo that describe a different picture from what some of the world-wide media has been portraying so far.  Please join with the Egyptians in praying for their nation:

Email excerpt from Tom Craig of Lighthouse Network, working with believers all across the Middle East:

“Now that the internet is working again in Egypt we are receiving many emails from our Egyptian friends. Praise the Lord! Through each of these communications there seems to be a common "cry in their hearts" for the Lord to intervene on behalf of their nation—especially tomorrow (Fri  4th Feb) during the large protest that is being planned, which is being called "The Day of Rage" or "The Day of Departure" (for Mubarak) after the Friday prayer time for Muslims.

Generally, the believers we know are doing well. They are feeling more and more united in their prayers for the nation of Egypt—though at the same time they are very concerned for how everything is moving so quickly towards forcing the removal of Mubarak from his office without an adequate transition process being agreed upon."

Email from R , an Egyptian believer living in Cairo who is witnessing events first hand:

Israel's neighbourhood is getting more dangerous by the day.

I am writing this to you as a witness to what is going on from the streets of Cairo over the last few days.
R and I have been following the developments since January 25th, which started with a large group of Egyptian youth taking to Tahrir square in an anti-government protest with specific demands.  I know some of these people who were in that group and I talked with them.  What is happening now has nothing to do with this original protest!  What is happening right now is a conspiracy to topple Mubarak from outside the country!

...let me tell you what I have personally witnessed on the streets of Cairo.

As we followed the unfolding of events including the announced change in government and President Mubarak's speech, we wondered why the international news media is focusing only on the thousands in Tahrir square who are escalating their demands and refusing dialogue.  The news media is reporting this as "the people of Egypt" wanting Mubarak to leave immediately.  Did they ask the "people of Egypt?"...Where are those, like myself, that want change and reform, but accept the changes that Mubarak is proposing, and want a peaceful transition through elections in September?

We decided to take to the streets to voice our opinion.  On Tuesday February 1st we went to Mustafa Mahmoud square in Mohandessin.  There were about one thousand people there around 3:30 pm. (yes, we broke the curfew).  The crowd grew to about 2,500 by 5:00 pm.  People were calling their friends over the phone telling them to come.  We left at about 6:30 pm and returned yesterday, Wednesday, starting at 11:00 am.  The small group had swelled to tens of thousands of people standing together with banners saying things like:
- yes to stability, yes to Mubarak
- give change a chance
- we are sorry Mr. president
- we accept dialogue, we trust you
- no to El Baradei, no to the Muslim brotherhood (many like this one)
- we are the Egyptians, where is Al-Jazeera, let them come and see
- no to corruption, no to vandalism
- we got what we asked the president for, so why are people still in Tahrir?  Who are they? What do they want?  etc., etc., etc.

By 2:00 pm, the crowd had grown to several hundreds of thousands of people, maybe up to a million, stretching from Sphinx square to Sudan Street.  We had a great sense of unity and victory.  We met with people who were in the original protest in Tahrir square who decided to join us saying: “we got what we asked for, and now we accept Mubarak's changes.”

We left around 4:15 pm.  The numbers had grown even more.  As we drove home we saw the same slogans on banners all over the city, on cars, on walls, on shop windows. We learned that similar demonstrations are taking place all over the country, in many different cities. This is the cry of the people of Egypt that is being totally ignored by the international news media.  How come CNN, the BBC, and others are reporting only the anti-government protests as the voice of the people?

Now to the situation in Tahrir Square. Only a few people (maybe hundreds) are still there from the original protesters. They have been slowly replaced by other highly organized groups.  Some witnesses claim that they don't look Egyptian, and don't sound Egyptian (different accent, different dialect).  People in Tahrir square are escalating the situation on purpose to topple President Mubarak for their own hidden agendas. We heard people on the streets saying that the plot to take over the country is now clear.

Egyptians who love Egypt, the millions that took to the streets yesterday, want this to end. They fully understand that president Mubarak is between a rock and a hard place, that he cannot quench the unrest in Tahrir through the army, so the people want to go to Tahrir to disperse the crowds there by themselves.  If Egyptians go the Tahrir square to take control of the situation, more chaos will erupt.

If Egypt falls, then neighbouring countries are going to fall one after the other. We need prayer. We ask for truth, we ask for justice and above all Lord, remember mercy.    Stand with us.
Pray for the schemes of darkness to be annulled and voided.  Pray for deception to be exposed. We humble ourselves and pray.  We seek the Face of the LORD.  We turn from our wicked ways. Listen to us Lord, forgive us, and heal our Land.

In Him, standing for God's purposes in Egypt,
R and R

Email from A & H

Blessings,

Situation is still very hot here in Egypt. Chaos is increasing more & more.
It's very clear now that there are other agendas trying to be enforced on the country from outside. Different Islamic agendas from Al-Jazeera, Hamas, Iran, Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah are trying to be imposed on the country.
The confrontation turned to be bloody. Muslim Brotherhood people are throwing balls of fire and bottles of fuel to heat up the situation more and more. The fundamentalists are using the situation for their sake. Al-Jazeera is filling the atmosphere with lies. CNN is very biased. The Muslim Brotherhood as well the fundamentalists are paying money and food to hire people to share in heating up the situation as many of our friends have seen this with their own eyes.

We definitely need your backing. It's a very critical hour. We pray for exposure of all the hidden agendas.

The following is a summary of excerpts from phone conversations over several days with believers in Egypt:

“We just spoke this afternoon with, B, the director of the House of Prayer in Egypt.  B shared with us about how some of the believers in the prayer movement now are meeting daily in key places around the city of Cairo to pray together and to be with one another for fellowship. He asked for prayer for revelation to be upon the believers in this time to understand God's heart and purposes for what they and their nation are going through.
We also spoke earlier in the day with our good friends, R & V. At the time that we called, R was in the street in front of their building guarding the building and their home with his neighbours. More and more the believers are seeing these times as opportunities to be with their neighbours and to share with them about the Lord. Praise God!”

“A main prayer request for now is how the protestors will respond to Mubarak's announcement and the transition that needs to begin to bring things into order and stability again. There are more demonstrations planned for the next few days to continue putting pressure on Mubarak to leave. The protestors are calling for an even larger gathering this Friday (4th Feb) during which the demonstrators will demand that Mubarak to leave office now.”

“We also spoke with our friends, A & H, again today with a prayer request that the Lord would expose the evil forces and plans against the nation of Egypt. There seems to be much confusion about who is really trying to stir up the violence and terror today that happened in Tahrir Square in the centre of Cairo. The U.S. media is reporting that it was being stirred up by pro-Mubarak forces, but the believers are finding that some of this is coming from the Muslim Brotherhood who is seeking to destabilize the nation and then to be in a better position to take over.”

A Vision from A, an Egyptian believer:

“Blessings.

I believe God wants to put an end for such chaos. It's with no doubt, the enemy's hand is blowing more evil into the situation to keep things hot.  I believe God wants the Church to take her role in seeking God for our beloved nation and not to keep going in such blindness that is sweeping the land...even some of God's people.

Three days ago while praying I got a vision. In the vision I saw a very evil hand holding a big black cup filled with a black fluid and pouring it onto the map of Egypt in all directions. Once the black fluid went into the soil it soon infiltrated it. It was a very sad picture. Then I heard a voice calling me and the others to "stand in the gap". I almost literally heard, "You have a key and you, My people, must pray so that the situation will not end up as the enemy is planning to do".

While praying, I could discern a thick black cloud of heavy presence of the enemy - all this blood, destruction and the fires in Tahrir Square. The prayer that I feel is to cut all the evil supply and the demonic empowering coming from the enemy to keep the situation heated up, and to put blindfolds and earplugs on eyes and ears of many, so that they wouldn't be able to see or hear rightly. As a family and together with many friends we are praying in prophetic acts to cut all demonic supply.

Many have discerned in the spirit, that there are other agendas that others are trying to enforce and impose on the country, as if these other agendas are the voice of the people and the youth. They are spreading lies, rumours, twisted sentences and dishonest information that is deceiving many. I believe it's a time when we should bring the enthusiasm under the wisdom. The enemy knows very well the influence of Egypt. The enemy does not want to lose the chance, so he is doing his best to keep the situation heated up and to deceive many even among the elite and even the believers. It's a call for awakening or otherwise it will be too late. Let all the chaos come to an end today in the name of Jesus!  Please be awakened and let's not be driven by any blindness. From now on many are already fasting. It's a call for an "Esther fast" until Friday.

Under His Shadow!
