Happy Purim!

On 23rd and 24th March 2016, Jewish people around the world will be celebrating Purim. The Feast remembers the heroism of Queen Esther, a Jewish orphan forced to join the King of Persia’s Harem and then, chosen to be the new Queen. On hearing about a decree to wipe out her people, Esther risks her life by approaching the King in his throne room without being summoned and begs for the lives of the Jews of Persia. You can read the whole story in the Bible in the Book of Esther.

Sorrow and mourning is turned to joy and it is decided from that day without fail they should celebrate these two days every year, that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city, that these days of Purim should not fail to be observed among the Jews. To this day, it is celebrated with great joy.

As we hear reports of increasing antisemitism, pray for the protection of the Jewish people around the world. May God raise up heroines like Esther, 'For such a time as this' who will stand up against injustice. We pray that Israel will be a safe haven for all her citizens and ask the Lord to guard her borders from those who want to destroy her.
